Sponsorships Done Right – A Lesson from US Event Rider Doug Payne

Wow. Putting my marketing hat on. I’ve written a few articles about how to obtain and maintain sponsorships on my company’s blog. Whether you are a professional rider or an amateur looking for sponsorship for your association, or prizes for the annual meeting, the rules are the same.
Here are my previous articles, if you are interested in the subject:
I always talk about the importance of doing as much as you can, to ensure the sponsors get a return on their investment (whether it’s sales, visibility etc). But it is just as important to keep showing the sponsors what you are doing for them, and make it impossible for them to forget you. If you are doing a lot for your sponsors, but they are not seeing it, your efforts will not be recognized. Out of sight, out of mind.
Well… here’s an example of “sponsorships done right”. A few minutes ago, US event rider Doug Payne posted a very cool video on Ecogold’s facebook page, recaping his season and thanking his owners and sponsors, with a message: “Thanks again for all of your support this year, we and our horses couldn’t do it without you!” I was very impressed.
I will share the video here, not only because it is awesome, with his helmet cam footage etc, but also, because it is a great example of someone going above and beyond to acknowledge those who have helped him during the year. Something we can all learn from. Thanks Doug!

You will also recall Doug’s other video, about his Indoor Eventing experience…

Love Doug! Such a classy guy (from my neighborhood, too!) Bought his video a while back, and had an issue. He returned my email immediately and rectified the situation immediately as well. Gotta love that.
